Finishing her Championship on the Fourth of July

CH Tarabon Come To The Dach Side

DOB 12/16/2013 Bred by: Jeani McKenney, Tarabon Dachshunds

I got it into my head that I needed a Longhaired Dachshund.  (Yes, I may in fact be crazy.)  First impression:  Boy, what a difference from Cardigans!  A litter of Cardigan puppies will enter a new environment and very methodically, sensibly, and reservedly check out said environment.  Only after they have analyzed the nature of the place, noted emergency exits, and checked to be certain that all applicable licenses and permits are in place and up to date will they commence with carousing.

Dachshunds?  Psh, throw caution to the wind!  The three girls in Mina’s litter hit the floor running and didn’t stop.  The spiral staircase in the kitchen — the one that the Cardigans have NEVER even thought about trying to descend?  One of the Dachshund puppies made it down onto the first step within the first 60 seconds. She is gonna be like leashing a whirlwind.

Mina is co-owned by me and Jeani McKenney.  Look for me to embarrass myself in the Dachshund ring in a few months!

UPDATE May 2014:  Mina competed in the 4-6 Month Beginner Puppy match at the shows in Scarborough in May, and came home with the Best Beginner Puppy in Show rosette!!  Hopefully a harbinger of good things to come!

UPDATE September 2014:  Mina attended her first “real” shows in Union, Maine, over Labor Day weekend, and went WB three of the four days, accumulating her first four points.  She showed decently overall; now we hope to find some majors at the fall shows!

UPDATE August 2015:  Last winter, Mina returned to Jeani to finish her show career, which she did on July 4th.  She is back at the Kaleidoscope Kompound now; she will go back down to Jeani next year to have a litter, but other than that, she’s home to stay.

UPDATE April 2019:  After a final litter with Isaac, Mina was spayed and is now enjoying her full-time role as my husband’s heart-dog.
