…to change her mind.
Although I previously announced that Rain would be bred to Ross, and Ross is a lovely dog, I have decided for Rain’s first litter to breed her to “Adam,” CH Sunkissed Moves Like Jagger, instead. Having had two Adam kids in my home, I know what great temperaments and breed type they have. Because he is a coat carrier, I may well have some fluffies in this litter, but I’m willing to take that chance. What’s a little hair, right? 😉
Guys, I am SO BAD at this blogging thing!!! But I did update the News page (kinda), and I have a new planned breeding page!! So there’s that!
I’ll, um, try to suck less?
It has come to my attention that someone by the name of Lexie Myers Buchanan is advertising blue merle “Pembrooks” (insert eye-roll here) in various online corgi groups, and referring folks her to Facebook page titled “Kaleidoscope Corgis.”
I just want to make sure everyone knows that I am not associated in any way with this person, and I categorically oppose the whole blue merle Pembroke-mix craze that certain unsavory elements are profiting from. Trust me, I make WAY less money than these yahoos. >:-(
Kaleidoscope Cardigans breeds purebred Cardigan Welsh Corgis ONLY. (Well, okay, I co-breed the occasional Longhair Dachshund litter, but those are also purebred, and from Champion parents only.) You get the idea.
I have a friend who has a 6 month-old female companion puppy available, black with brindle points. Please drop me an email for further information.
Please check out my newest litter page. Mina has a little something brewing. 🙂
Ten months between posts. Yikes! Bad blogger!!
We’re still here, still doing the Cardi thing. Rain began her show career this summer and has been a little slower to start than her mom and dad, which has been a bit frustrating since I feel she is better conformation-wise than either of them. Or maybe I just got spoiled a little after Whiskey, Saphira and Heathcliffe finished very quickly.
Rain is coming along, though; her first shows (other than a 4-6 month beginner puppy appearance at the National) were in Vermont in July, where she came home with a couple of Reserves. In October, she went Winners Bitch 2 of 3 days in West Springfield for a couple of singles, and was Reserve the 3rd day. And just this past weekend at the Thanksgiving Classic, she was again WB 2 of 3 days with a Reserve on the off day, bringing her total point count to 6.
Rain lacks her mother’s sparkling showmanship in the ring, so we’ll be working over the winter to build her confidence so she can go back out in the spring with a bit more pizzazz and maturity to take to the National.
In other news, Whiskey appears to be done with the child-bearing thing, so she will be spayed over the winter and, if just the right person comes along, she will be available to a retirement home. Fair warning, though: I’m going to be super fussy about where she goes.
Heathcliffe has fully matured and, though showing isn’t necessarily his favorite pass-time, he may come back out in the spring to see if we can finish up that Grand. I am hoping to OFA him this winter and he will be available at stud to approved bitches. New photos to come by this weekend if I can manage to get some during the daylight on my day off.
Mina is still supposed to be bred at some point, either by me or her breeder, Jeani McKenney. I am hesitant only because homes for standard Dachshunds are sometimes hard to come by in the northeast, and I do not like to have litters without homes waiting. Stay tuned, and if you or someone you know is looking for a standard longhaired Dachshund, please do get in touch!
Magnum will be eligible for Veterans classes (can you even believe it?!) as of January 22nd, and he is coming to the 2017 National! He is the very first dog I put a Championship on, and my only Grand Champion to date, and he LOVES to show; I’m looking forward to getting back into the ring with him in Ohio.
And, last but not least, this little character happened:
This is Song (Blackdales Song Sung Blue). Song was bred by Cheryl Black and is co-owned with her. While Song is a fluff and will not be taking a turn in the show ring, we are hoping that she will turn out as a breeding prospect, and be the start of my long-awaited “blue line.” View Song’s pedigree here.
Whew, I think that catches things up. I’d better make “blogging more regularly” one of my New Year’s resolutions!
So, it occurred to me that, though I’ve been posting (and posting… and posting) pics and vids of my Favorite Things on Facebook, not all of you actually follow me on Facebook. (It’s the political posts, isn’t it?) Part of the reason I tend to post there is that the mobile app makes it WAY easier to just upload, post and go than it is to put together a blog post. But that doesn’t mean I should ignore my blog altogether. So, let’s make up for lost time! Here’s a compilation of the Things’ first week. I’m afraid there will only be pictures, no videos. It’s just too unwieldy to imbed the videos here. Ya want vids, ya gotta deal with the political posts. 😉
Pardon the repeats if you also follow me on Facebook. Heathcliffe and Saphira’s “Favorite Things” litter has arrived! Four girls, born via c-section this morning.
Names are subject to change, but for now: First up is April, “Kaleidoscope Melt Into Spring,” red girl number 1.
Next is Copper, “Kaleidoscope Bright Copper Kettles,” red girl number 2.
Third is Luna, “Kaleidoscope Moon On Their Wings,” brindle girl number 1.
And last but not least is Rain (yes, I’m repeating the name, because I like it, and the first one didn’t stick. Sue me.) “Kaleidoscope Raindrops On Roses,” second brindle girl.
If you were hoping for a boy from this litter, um, sorry? Although as a breeder, I can never be TOO sorry about a whole litter of girls. Good boy, Heathcliffe.
Stay tuned for many more adventures of our Favorite Things!
Heathcliffe and Saphira were bred last week. Crossing fingers and toes that it took. If so, we’ll be looking for puppies between Christmas and New Year’s, which is a perfect time for the “My Favorite Things” litter. 🙂
If you’re waiting and hoping for a puppy out of this litter, start doing the puppy dance and thinking good thoughts!
